English Literature professors are fond of using the word story without the article the or a. And they usually put it in quotation marks, as in “The human soul has an innate need for 'story.'” Normal people, in contrast, would say, “Everybody loves a good story.”

We believe most people are normal, more or less. As such, we're pretty certain that those who own or are thinking of buying vacation-rental property would love to hear stories from other current or prospective owners. We know we would.

All sorts of potential topics come to mind. Here are some ideas to get you started:

• Advice for New VR Owners: Things I wish I'd known when I first started renting my vacation property.
• Must-Have Resources: A really great product or service I've discovered for VR owners.
• Competitive Edge: How I've made my property stand out from the competition.
• Turnaround Timesavers: A special technique for shortening the time it takes to get my VR ready for guests.  
• Sticky Situations: How I dealt with a particularly difficult problem with one of my guests. 

How to Submit Your Stories

If you'd like to share your story, your tips, tricks, or anything else you feel is likely to be of interest to fellow VR owners, here's what to do:

1. Send us an email with the basic facts. (Don't worry about composing the Great American VR Story. We'll get back to you with any questions we may have, and we'll give you the opportunity to review your edited story before we publish it.) 
2. Include your name, where you live, the location of your vacation-rental property, and your phone number.
3. When you're ready, just click here to send us your story via email. You can put it into the body of your message, or attach it as a Word (.doc) file, whichever you prefer.

And the Winner Is...

We'll choose the best items and publish them on this site, along with a byline that includes your name, a brief bio, and a link to your vacation property (or just your initials and the location of your property if you'd prefer to remain anonymous).
