William Goldman’s Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) includes one of the most famous running jokes in movie history: Several times, after performing an extraordinary feat to shake the posse that’s pursuing them—only to look back to find the lawmen still hot on their trail—Paul Newman as Butch says, “Who are those guys?”
At this point, you’re undoubtedly asking the same thing about us.
We’re happy to oblige.
We are two very experienced writers with a proven talent for explaining subjects in clear, highly readable, and often entertaining prose.
Since 1979 we've written over 60 books that have racked up combined sales of over one million copies. Critics in publications as diverse as Forbes, MacWorld, and The New York Times have been generous in their praise. The Times once even hailed Alfred as “the Great Explainer.”
Bottom line: With us, you know you’re in good hands. But it gets better.

Not only do we have nearly 15 years’ experience marketing our own second home as a profitable vacation rental, we are deeply steeped in the online world. In fact, we were practically there at its creation.
Alfred’s sixth book, The Complete Handbook of Personal Computer Communications was published in 1983, back when most people went online by thrusting a telephone handset into the foam cups of an “acoustic modem.” That book sold over 186,000 copies and led to regular columns in PC Magazine, Computer Shopper, and Scholastic’s Home Office Computing.
Many, many other books about the “electronic universe” and the Internet and the World Wide Web followed, as an Amazon.com search on “Glossbrenner” will confirm. That same Amazon search will reveal that we’ve also written authoritative guides to personal finance and home buying.

Bottom line: Whether it is from 15 years of personal, hands-on vacation-rental experience or from 25 years of writing about the online world, we know what we're talking about when discussing the best, most cost-effective way to market your second home as a vacation rental using the Internet.
We think of it as “the threads coming together.” And indeed they did in October 2003, when we published the first book ever on "how to rent by owner"—How to Make Your Vacation Property Work for You! We have revised and updated the book since and added a line of CD-based publications we call the Vacation Rental Secrets & Sources series. (Both are described in detail and available here on our Web site.)
There’s one other thing you should know about us: We write the kind of books we ourselves would want to read. Books that are both truly useful and 100% truthful. We are and have always been completely independent. We do not accept commissions, fees, affiliate payments, or freebies of any kind from anybody—sad to say, a rarity in the general travel-related writing world.
Bottom line: We do not claim to be infallible, but you can count on us to always give you the benefit of our best judgment. Honest. Impartial. And unbiased.
Conclusion
We’re huge fans of William Goldman. Not the least of which is because, thanks to Alfred’s stint as a book clerk at the Scribner bookstore in New York decades ago, we own a first edition of the author’s The Princess Bride. We also love Goldman’s much-quoted line about whether a movie will be a hit or not: “Nobody knows anything” (Adventures in the Screen Trade, 1983). That applies to so many things in life, not just movies.
So it should be no surprise that we end this section with a bit of Butch (Paul Newman) and Sundance (Robert Redford) dialogue from the Goldman movie. The two are on the run, looking back at the posse that’s after them:
Butch Cassidy: Who's the best lawman?
Sundance Kid: The best, how? You mean toughest? Or easiest to bribe?
Butch Cassidy: Toughest.
Sundance Kid: Joe LeFors.
Butch Cassidy: Got to be.
Sundance Kid: LeFors never leaves Wyoming, never. You know that.
Butch Cassidy: He always wears a white skimmer. That's how you tell it's Joe LeFors, 'cause he always wears a white straw hat. Look at that guy out front.
[Butch and Sundance start running]
Butch Cassidy: Who are those guys?
Sundance Kid: Hey, Butch?
Butch Cassidy: What?
Sundance Kid: They're very good.
Well, we’re very good, too. And we hope you will give us the opportunity to prove it to you. As we’ve noted elsewhere, you can’t lose: Everything we offer comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Happy Renting!
